Sansome and Broadway Family Housing receives AIACC Honor Award

Date Posted: 09.24.2015

Sansome and Broadway Family Housing won a 2015 Residential Design Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects, California Council (AIACC). Winners were selected out of 100 entries based on their quality of design, stewardship, concept, and thoughtful innovation in practice and technique. Mithun’s Anne Torney accepted the award at the 2015 Design Awards Celebration held on Thursday, September 24. The judges remarked on the fact that Sansome and Broadway Family Housing forms a pair with an “equally splendid” Broadway Family Apartments diagonally opposite.

Located centrally in San Francisco, Sansome and Broadway Family Housing includes 75 units of housing for low-income and formerly homeless families, and was built to repair the scar left on the historic neighborhood after the demolition of the Embarcadero Freeway. Mithun’s Daniel Solomon and Stephen Poon were key team members on this project.

The AIACC Residential Awards program was created to honor the creative and innovative individuals who create the comfortable living environment for the places that we dwell. Entries ranged from affordable housing; condominiums; and mobile, multi-family and single family residences.
