Nordic Museum Receives Civic Design Award

Date Posted: 09.13.2018

We’re pleased to announce that Nordic Museum received a Citation Award at the AIA Washington Council Civic Design Awards ceremony on September 12th. The annual awards event celebrates the best examples of what can be realized when architects and civic clients work together to achieve quality design. In particular, the design jury complimented the quality of light in the museum and how it plays across the faceted planes of the central Fjord Hall, highlighting the reverence for natural light shared by the Pacific Northwest and Nordic regions.

Founded in 1980, Nordic Museum is the only museum in the world telling the story of the five Nordic countries and the native Sami people. The new facility opened in May 2018 with climate-controlled collection space and expanded areas for exhibitions, education, events and community gathering.
