In atonement for America’s long history of marginalizing low income and communities of color, the landscape designer’s role has expanded to incorporate social justice within engagement processes to create equitable spaces and avoid perpetuating unjust histories.

Join Mithun landscape designer Jescelle Major for “Expanding the Roster: The Design Paradigm That Prioritizes Equity, Community, and Justice” to explore how we can encourage the underserved to contribute to places that will serve them. Attendees will learn the importance of acknowledging unjust histories, how to gain trust in communities through storytelling and listening, strategies in creating spaces that celebrate existing cultures and prevent displacement, and new ideas for meaningful community engagement inspired by modern strategies.

Jescelle will be joined by session moderator Alex Marchinski, senior landscape designer with Stoss Landscape Urbanism, and panelists Matthew Mazzotta, artist at Harvard Graduate School of Design, and Eric Williams, founder and creative director of The Silver Room.
