Mithun Partners with Techbridge Girls

Date Posted: 12.21.2018

Mithun recently partnered with Techbridge Girls to inspire a group of 20 students to change the world through careers in STEM. The girls from Chinook Middle School spent the day at the Seattle office with women in our architecture, landscape architecture and interior design teams, learning about design careers and working side-by-side on a hands-on activity that emphasized how each discipline shapes the built environment.

The collaborative activity welcomed the girls as new Mithun designers and assembled them within multi-disciplinary teams to reimagine their school campus spaces and design a makerspace. An office tour rounded out the day with information about the history of Pier 56, Mithun’s approach to sustainability, and the diverse ways in which designers visually express ideas including physical model making and virtual reality.

What did the girls think about the STEM exploration? A participant shared, “I am more interested in engineering and architecture because after we talked I want to make schools that have a great wellness structure for kids to love to work in.” We agree!

The mission of Techbridge Girls is to excite, educate and equip girls from low-income communities by delivering high quality STEM programming that empowers a girl to achieve economic mobility and better life chances. With locations in California, the Pacific Northwest and the Washington DC Metro Area, Techbridge Girls delivers STEM programs to K-12 girls from underserved and under-resourced communities and envisions a world where all girls lead, contribute and thrive in science, technology, engineering and math
