Join Mithun’s architectural designer Katie Stege for “Promoting Health through Community Development: Lessons Learned from Denver,” a discussion by leaders from Denver Housing Authority, Denver Public Health and Mithun about their experience promoting health through the design and operation of Denver’s built environment. Featured case studies include Mithun’s 2009 work with Denver Housing Authority on the Mariposa Healthy Living Initiative to guide the redevelopment of nearly 900 new mixed-income housing units near downtown Denver, and recent work with DHA to reapply the Healthy Living Initiative principles to the Sun Valley community in Denver. This session will cover the need for interdisciplinary approaches to promoting health and health equity at the community scale; identify available tools and incentives to promote population health and health equity through built environment practice; and describe opportunities for built environment practitioners to partner with public health practitioners to create health-promoting places.

Katie’s co-presenters include University of Virginia School of Medicine Associate Professor Matthew Trowbridge, US Green Building Council Health Research Manager Kelly Worden, Denver Housing Authority Director of Workforce Development and Community Initiatives Lynn Picard, and Ambient Energy Sustainability Team Leader Clayton Bartczak.
