Streetscape Design at Taylor 28
Taylor 28 offers a new way for people to live in cities and experience the street as a place in its own right. By activating Taylor Avenue, the project ushers in an era of vitality to an underutilized urban zone. In Seattleās urban core, more than 35 percent of the open space exists within the public right-of-way street network. Until now, streets in the area were viewed solely in terms of moving people, goods and services through a linear corridor. Taylor 28 changes that perception by demonstrating the value of streetscapes in the overall ecological and social fabric of our daily lives. Restoring more than 30 percent of a site that was devoid of trees and consisted almost entirely of impervious surfaces, the project supports a broader strategy to create livable, walkable and ecologically balanced communities that concentrate growth within urban centers.
