Clackamas Heights Receives Affordable Green Neighborhoods Grant
12.10.2010 Mithun, Project Updates
Earlier this month, the U.S. Green Building Council and Bank of America announced ten inaugural grantees of the Affordable Green Neighborhoods program, which provides $25,000 in cash plus educational resources to help each project pursue LEED for Neighborhood Development certification.
Awardees include Clackamas Heights, Oregon’s oldest public housing property, which currently provides 100 housing units for 222 residents, including 95 children. The Housing Authority of Clackamas County hired Mithun to redesign the community, as current units have reached the end of their useful life: buildings lack foundations, suffer from severe structural deficiencies, and cannot meet ADA compliance. The new concept, which proposes 283 units, utilizes land more efficiently through an improved site design that connects residents with the surrounding community, providing better access to services and activities used by residents and the surrounding neighborhood.
“The Affordable Green Neighborhoods grant will provide the financial support to successfully complete the Clackamas Heights Redevelopment in a highly green and sustainable manner,” said Mary Bradshaw, project manager for the Clackamas Heights Redevelopment Housing Authority.
