Hope House Video - Aging in Community
11.02.2010 Mithun, Project Updates, Noteworthy
This video showcases Hope Meadows, an intergenerational community in which seniors support families as they adopt and raise children from the foster care system.
As Hope Meadows’ existing housing stock gradually failed to meet the needs of its aging seniors, the community’s adoptive families sought to develop a different model of housing – one that would honor the important role that elders play within families. This new model, called a Hope House, was created to support elders through the end stages of life and recognize the lifetime of generous care that they’ve provided to others.
Mithun is working with Generations of Hope to design two Hope Houses and a new intergenerational community center for the Hope Meadows community. Each new Hope House will provide shelter and services to support elders as their health declines, allowing them to age in place and to continue meaningful relationships with loved ones.
Hope Meadows is currently acquiring funding for this project.
