Site Programming and the Quest for Zero Impact Development
11.18 - 11.19.2008 Westin Hotel, Seattle, WA @ 3:30pm
Mike Fowler AIA, LEED AP, architect, and project manager at Mithun, along with project team member and civil engineer Patty Buchanan, PE, LEED AP of SvR Design Company and Tim Thomson from the Port of Bremerton, will be presenting Kitsap SEED – Marrying the Ultra-Modern with Zero-Discharge Requirements as part of the Lid Applications: Site Consideration track at the 2008 ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) International Low Impact Development Conference.
The project team will share details about The Kitsap SEED Project, which is a Port of Bremerton Initiative seeking to integrate Sustainable Energy and Economic Development (SEED) within a world-class campus for clean energy technology companies. The project goal is to showcase the highest level of sustainable development and business operating practices.
The project has been designed to achieve net zero energy use by generating more energy on-site than will be used over the course of a year along with meeting a 65/10/0 metric for the highest standard of low impact site development in order to protect the surrounding habitat and watershed. The 65/10/0 metric will be the focus of the conference technical session discussing how the project worked to keep a minimum of 65% of the site area as undisturbed or restored, limiting impervious area to a 10% maximum of the site area, and effectively achieving a 0% net increase in overland flow runoff.
For more information on attending this and other sessions of the multi-day conference see the ASCE International LID Conference website.
