Smart Seawalls: A Travel Study on the Future of the Seattle Seawall

04.01 - 04.30.2010 Seattle, WA

Exhibit of findings by Mithunee Christina Bump's AIA Emerging Professional Travel Scholarship

Mithun architectural designer Cristina Bump was the 2009 recipient of the AIA Emerging Professional Travel Scholarship for her proposal to study innovative seawall designs in Australia and Canada. An exhibit of her work will be on display at the AIA Seattle office throughout April, an opening reception will be held on Thursday, April 1st, 2010 from 5-7pm.

After her travels abroad, she returns to document her findings through a model, video, and print exhibition. Of special interest will be large-scale physical models of the different ‘smart’ seawalls studied and how they could be applied to Seattle’s habitat, ecosystem, and tidal patterns. Visit Cristina’s travel blog which outlines her adventure in Australia and follows Seattle’s political process.
