A New San Francisco Neighborhood

Hunters Point Shipyard Neighborhood Studies

San Francisco, CA

An Ambitious Vision

The conversion of Hunters Point Naval Shipyard into a new mixed use neighborhood represents the largest urban design of a single property in San Francisco’s history. The full build-out envisions 2,650 residential units, 5 million square feet of commercial space, retail, a variety of cultural institutions and ambitious re-use of the Shipyard’s architectural legacy.

Lively, Walkable Neighborhoods

The city’s beloved historic patterns of small blocks, mid-blocks lanes and delicate scale are reinterpreted to address modern needs and deliver diverse, walkable, beautiful and compact urban living for future generations of San Franciscans.

Long-term Collaboration

Through multiple contracts over more than a decade, Mithun principals Daniel Solomon and John Ellis have participated in this collaborative effort with primary responsibility for the urban design of Shipyard North and the Hillside neighborhood. In addition, the firm is currently designing 47 residential units in Phase One of Hillside.
