Brix
Overview
Brix demonstrates a high-density model for smart urban living by transforming the site of a defunct supermarket into a vibrant mixed-use development that appeals to a diverse market. Stacked lofts look east and north onto the quiet residential setting of 10th Avenue and Mercer Street, while retail and residential on Broadway invigorate the neighborhood’s business corridor. Variation in the project’s façade solves a complex design challenge while using traditional materials, such as brick, to emulate the traditional, tree-lined context of the Capitol Hill neighborhood. An interior Anhalt-style courtyard with lush landscaping complements the scene, creating a garden sanctuary shared equally by residents.
