Evergreen State College Arts Lab Annex
Overview
The Arts Lab Annex physically connects the studios to form one coherent complex. New studios serve students for sculpture assembly, drawing, wood shop, and metal casting. The remodel expands the metal shop and ceramic studios. New outdoor work areas include a casting shed.
The new studios reinforce the sculptural massing of the existing building. The sawtooth roof of the wood shop building is spaced away from the existing structure: The resulting gap becomes a linear sky lit sculpture assembly studio.
The existing palette of materials, poured–in–place concrete and white-standing seam metal with steel frames, extend into the new addition.
This project is by Mithun Principal Don Carlson while at Carlson Architects.
