Sustainable revitalization: A HOPE VI mixed-income neighborhood in downtown Portland, OR

Project Galleries

New Columbia

Overview

The master plan for this HOPE VI revitalization project replaces the isolated and aging Columbia Villa public housing near downtown Portland in the Portsmouth neighborhood with a long awaited, vibrant, new community that has a mix of housing types and income levels. The new neighborhood is integrated into the surrounding community through its architecture and street patterns, and provides additional community services, recreation, and education opportunities to residents and neighbors. The design team, led by Mithun and Robertson Merryman Barnes, working closely with KPFF Consulting Engineers, managed the urban design development, master planning, sustainable development, and construction technology for commercial and public housing, as well as developing the design guidelines for future private developer housing.
