South Downtown Vision

Seattle's urban future — Redefining and rejuvenating an industrial neighborhood

South Downtown Vision

Overview

A group of property owners in Pioneer Square had a vision for a thriving residential community for families of all incomes. In order to define a comprehensive vision, Mithun facilitated ten months of workshops with a property owner’s group. This vision adds more than 8,000 new housing units to the area south of the downtown business district, revitalizes the existing buildings and supports retail businesses while helping the region by keeping people off the highways. The plan shows the transformation on the Port of Seattle’s Terminal 46 and the former Washington Oregon Shippers Cooperative Association sites. Residential buildings replace parking lots inside Pioneer Square and east of the neighborhood. Pier 48 becomes a hotel. A new terminal is created for auto ferries, and a new park is constructed near the waterfront.
