Yesler Community Center
Overview
As the first public housing development in Washington, and the first racially integrated housing development in the United States, Yesler Terrace carries a legacy of “firsts”. The center was designated as the first LEED® Gold community center in Seattle – contemporary in design and bright with natural light. Located within Yesler Terrace, a historic public housing project, the fresh venue reflects new opportunities for redevelopment in the next decade. The center replaces a smaller facility built in the 1950s. Yesler Terrace residents have a renewed sense of community, strengthened by shared ties to the city and the environment. The Yesler Community Center provides a diverse inner-city neighborhood with a gym, kitchen, computer room, teen room, fitness center, arts and crafts space, multipurpose room and childcare spaces.
