Optimizing Performance
Hollywood Bowl
Hollywood, CA
An Icon, Reborn
The new Hollywood Bowl re-invents the acoustics, enhances the functionality and nearly doubles the size of the eighty-year-old icon it replaced, while echoing the memory and visual identity of the beloved original.
Acoustic Halo
The innovative, computer-controlled "acoustic halo" positions a variable sound reflector directly above the orchestra in order to create a rich musical performance space. The elliptical configuration complements the form of the new shell, and contains kinetic baffles that can be tuned to compensate for different atmospheric conditions and accommodate diverse performance types.
Creative Ensemble
A highly integrated design approach, beginning with master planning and strategic responses to the National Historic Register, achieved LA Philharmonic’s desire for an uncluttered and romantic orchestra shell. The structure enhances the experience of traditional orchestral ensembles, miked performances and large traveling shows.
