Intermodal Gateway

Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Metro Station

Los Angeles, CA

Modes of Transportation

Situated at the intersection of Los Angeles Metro’s Green and Blue lines, Rosa Parks Metro is an intermodal facility enabling transfers between light-rail, bus and parking facilities. Significant upgrades to the facility, the fourth most heavily used station in the Metro system, will expand its capacity and improve connections between lines via a mezzanine level with new bus portals and boarding platforms.

Rider-oriented Plaza

The project transforms a desolate intermodal transfer station situated beneath a freeway interchange in the Watts neighborhood into a rider-oriented Metro plaza. The design emphasizes clear wayfinding, streamlined connections and passenger amenities.

Gateway and Destination

A new retail center, Sheriff’s sub-station, Metro court and café/courtyard aim to transform the station from a lonely outpost to a neighborhood gateway and gathering place. The open-air plaza is a public resource to be used for community events, from special exhibits to movie nights and food trucks.
