As sustainable architecture has gone mainstream over the past decade, it has given rise to a wide variety of design metrics and rating systems. How do these rating systems help to increase environmental sustainability within each tribal context? Rating systems such as the Living Building Challenge, the Sustainable SITES Initiative, and the Well Building Standard move beyond the technical metrics of LEED and strive to achieve genuine balance with the natural world and improve the health of the building occupants.

Join Mithun’s Dakota Keene and Michael Fiegenschuh as they present Sustainable Design: What Comes Next? at this year’s Tribal Green Summit with Dan Neelands of the Squaxin Island Tribe. This session will explore these new measures of sustainability to see how they have the potential to transform the built environment, improve the health and wellbeing of tribal communities, and align the design process with the deeply rooted cultural and ecological values of tribes across the country.
