Mithun Partner Deb Guenther will moderate a panel at the Summit on Landscape Architecture and the Future in Philadelphia about social equity that will inform the new landscape declaration. Panelists Kurt Culbertson, Alison Hirsch, Jeffrey Hou, Diane Jones Allen and Anne Whiston Spirn will discuss a call to action that recognizes shifting racial and income demographics – now and for the next fifty years; identifies steps to build diversity in the profession, practices and universities; and acknowledges the human need for relationship building – moving from transactional to transformational design.
The Summit marks 50 years since Ian McHarg and other leading landscape architects composed LAF’s seminal Declaration of Concern, which decried the burgeoning environmental crisis and heralded landscape architecture as critical to help solve it. Building on this legacy, this one-time historic gathering will culminate in a redrafting of the original 1966 Declaration of Concern and a landmark publication of the ideas presented
