The Perot Family Offices brings together diverse family companies and activities within a new headquarters along the banks of Turtle Creek. With the campus now complete and occupied, family members recently shared insights into their history, project goals and changing workplace culture with Dallas Morning News.
UNIFYING OPERATIONS
The building unites the Perots’ businesses—including real estate, energy, investment and airplane leasing—along with family foundations and a museum with decades of memorabilia. About 250 employees and family members have relocated to the campus from multiple locations around the Dallas area.
“This is the first time in 25 years we’ve had all our companies together,” said Ross Perot Jr. “All my sisters are here. My dad [H. Ross Perot] is here every day… It’s really designed to be a true family headquarters, with all the different businesses we are involved in under one roof.”
ENHANCING HEALTH AND PRODUCTIVITY
The building features a central stair that encourages use, a café with healthy menus and a gym with connections to the Katy Trail. “Anything we can do to keep our team healthy is good for us,” said Ross.
Nancy Perot explained that bringing together the business operations in one place with a central gathering area and communicating stair is already changing the way they work. “You get to see people in the hallways we used to just communicate with by email or phone,” she said. “That is a really important part—the easy collaboration between the divisions.”
In addition to amenities and collaboration areas, the design incorporates generous and flexible work spaces. “The trend in office space is to get more and more people in less space,” said Ross. “We are the opposite of that trend here. We let our teams pick their work environment. We are here to maximize productivity. You are allowed to have the work style you want.”
