The Technology Innovation Training Center received an Interior Architecture Merit Award with Social Responsibility Commendation in the 2017 AIA San Francisco Design Awards program.
Advancing a mission to recruit women into technology careers, this adaptive-reuse facility incorporates an innovative mix of training, gathering and work spaces to support diverse program needs. The design by Mithun leverages humble materials and dramatic lighting to transform a dark and dreary lab space into a vibrant education hub.
The jury noted that “women in tech struggle to be taken seriously, and that this space feels sincere without a dependence on the playground culture that sometimes is leveraged in tech centers.” They also lauded “the clear circulation and organized plan of the project that supports the overall program, as well as the restrained [palette], creating a depth of meaning with each careful use of color.”
