Construction of Gemenskap Park will begin on Monday, January 8th in the East Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. The new park transforms two full blocks of an existing street, 14th Ave NW, into public open space providing improved safety, green stormwater treatment, a multi-use path for biking and neighborhood greenway connections.
This is the third interdepartmental project in the City of Seattle converting streets to public space where land is at a premium. Design and construction of this project is funded by the Parks and Green Spaces Levy Acquisition Fund, which provides $24 million for the acquisition of neighborhood parks in up to 20 identified areas throughout the city. Additional information and construction updates are available on Seattle Parks and Recreation’s project web page.
