Fruiting Bodies and Other Landscapes, featuring work by Erin Kendig, a Seattle-based artist, will display through June 5th at Threshold Gallery. Please join us for an opening reception with the artist on Thursday, April 5, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Erin’s current work is inspired by imagery rooted in the Pacific Northwest landscape—trees, clouds, moss, mushrooms and lichen. She thinks of this work as a cross between landscape painting and illustration, in which elements of the landscape that are often treated as static background objects are brought forward as animate subjects of a narrative. Highly stylized, surreal and abstracted mostly from memory, these imagined landscapes often conflate scales and display patterns. This reflects, in part, her interest in the process of “emergence” and also expressions of the sublime, in which the human self may be both found and lost within vast natural systems.
Threshold Gallery was established by Mithun in 2008 to connect people with art, artists and the built environment, as well as to inspire and drive our work as designers. The gallery is located within Mithun’s offices at Pier 56 on the Seattle Waterfront, and is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
