Join Mithun associate Emily Hagen at Ampersand Live for her perspective on how one of the Pacific Northwest’s most treasured resources, wood, has inspired her ‘place-keeping’ architectural philosophy: “Essentially embracing the natural world to shape the built one.” Emily draws a line from her mother’s Slovakian immigrant roots instilling in her a belief in design for positive change; to the biophilia hypothesis “suggesting the instinctive bond between human beings and other living systems” like trees; to her recent work with Forterra designing a mass timber mixed-use community housing project for Somali and East African immigrants.
