With one billion square feet of excess office space coming online over the next decade it is crucial to consider the potential for commercial buildings repurposed to help address the housing crisis. This panel will address this potential from the policy perspective, discussing recent federal, state and local legislative initiatives, site identification work, and research findings on the challenges and opportunities of this particular form of adaptive reuse. We’ll also hear from a developer of a commercial-to-residential project just starting construction; and an architect who will share key design considerations.

Join Mithun partner Anne Torney for “Adaptive Reuse: Commercial to Residential” to gain insight from four industry experts about legislative initiatives, site identification, research discoveries, residential construction, and design considerations for repurposing commercial buildings.

Anne will moderate a panel consisting of UC Berkeley Terner Center for Housing Studies policy director David Garcia, HR&A Advisors director Ada Peng, Eden Housing vice president of development Andrea Osgood, and Studio 111 partner Michael Bohn.
