This panel will share The Industrial Commons’ (TIC) work to strengthen textile and furniture manufacturing in the South and erase inequities of generational poverty by incubating worker-owned enterprises. TIC collaborates with local and national partners, including SmartWool, to foster dignified work repurposing waste materials into new products.

Mithun associate principal Jason Wilkinson will present “Worker-Owned Enterprises in a Circular Economy,” to demonstrate how the next generation EcoDistricts Protocol can be applied to facilitate community co-creation of goals and metrics for sustainable development initiatives. This panel will identify principles and strategies for designing built environments with circularity in mind, drawing inspiration from TIC’s Innovation Campus and its integration of circularity, biophilia, and resiliency into a mixed-use industrial hub.

Jason’s co-presenters include The Industrial Commons Co-Executive Director Molly Hemstreet and Senior Director of Infrastructure Erin Kizer, as well as Partnership for Southern Equity Just Growth Portfolio Director Suzanne Burnes.
