Construction Begins at Aviva Crossing

Date Posted: 03.20.2025

We are thrilled to announce the groundbreaking of Aviva Crossing in Tacoma, Washington. The new, 138,883 sf affordable family housing development will provide 129 homes, half of which consist of two- and three-bedroom apartments. Developed by Mercy Housing Northwest, the project addresses the ongoing displacement of low-income families and the critical need for affordable housing in Pierce County.

With proximity to Tacoma Community College and an Opportunity Neighborhood, this transit-oriented community offers residents easy access to schools, employment opportunities and rapid regional transit connections.

Intentional community spaces encourage gathering and socialization, including two at-grade courtyards, a playground and quiet garden spaces. Each residential floor includes a lounge, providing flexible social space with access to natural daylight and fresh air.

Construction is estimated to be completed in summer 2026.

Mithun provided integrated design services, including architecture, interior design and landscape architecture. Additional design team members include AHBL, Atlas Design Group, 4EA Building Science and O’Brien360.

Project funding was supported by a combination of sources including Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, Department of Commerce funding, City of Tacoma funds, Maureen Howard Affordable Housing Sales Tax fund and Pierce County American Rescue Plan funding.
