New Exhibition of Paintings by Kirk Yamahira Opens in Threshold Gallery

Date Posted: 03.30.2026

A new exhibition featuring the work of Kirk Yamahira is now on display at Threshold Gallery. Please join us for a reception on Thursday, April 2nd, from 5:00pm – 7:00 pm.

Kirk Yamahira is a Seattle-based contemporary artist, redefining the textile medium through methodical deconstruction. “American Loom” focuses on the 12-ounce cotton duck, a material synonymous with the “fabric of life” in the Pacific Northwest.

The artist shares, “Historically an essential ‘shield’ for the region’s maritime and timber industries, it [cotton duck textile] is equally rooted in the quietude of the home. This canvas is both a “shell” of accumulated time and a “vessel” for the stories of those who have persevered through this harsh yet beautiful climate.

“My process is fundamentally subtractive. By deconstructing the industrially woven canvas in reverse, I expose its inherent essence. This “undoing” is not destruction; it is a reunion with latent structural planes and the beginning of a new dialogue. By pulling threads one by one, I create semi-relief forms that blur the line between the tangible and the ephemeral, and the woven and the void.”
