Renovations to James Keough Park are officially complete! Mithun joined the Shoreline community on May 29th to celebrate the enhanced public space’s grand re-opening.
The park’s namesake, James Keough, was an Edmonds resident whose advocacy work helped ensure this parcel of land was preserved as a park for children and families.
Key improvements include walkways dotted with skate features; a new playground; restrooms; a small picnic shelter and tables; a bike rack; plantings; and an off-leash dog area. The design uses significant fill generated from regrading to enhance existing park hills into even bigger features that provide buffers from the adjacent Interstate 5 and an exciting topography for users and planting alike.
In 2022, Shoreline voters approved a parks bond that funded, among other things, improvements to eight local parks using the progressive design-build delivery model. The team of FORMA Construction and Mithun, along with KPFF engineering, were selected for integrated park design and construction. Across the eight public park sites, six include playgrounds designed with inclusive features that support visitors with diverse abilities and needs. Each of the parks is unique to its neighborhood and tailored to the needs of its surrounding community.
Improvements to Ridgecrest Park and Kruckeberg Botanic Garden Boardwalk were completed in 2024. Shoreview Off-Leash Dog Area and Richmond Highlands Park improvements were completed in 2025, and the opening of James Keough Park marks completion of five of the eight bond project parks. East Hamlin Park is planned to re-open to the public this fall, followed by Brugger’s Bog Park and Hillwood Park in 2027 to wrap up the bond project.
