A new exhibition featuring the work of Andrew Parker is now on display at Threshold Gallery in Seattle. Please join us for a reception on Thursday, October 1st, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
Andrew is a Spokane-based contemporary artist, whose practice explores the relationship between human and natural environments and the ways we experience, construct and remember place. “Notes on the Road” considers the tension between the landscape we choose to see and the landscape we encounter, as well as our impact on both.
The artist shares, “Landscapes have long been a source of beauty and we have constructed an enduring mythology around the open landscape. Yet much of what surrounds us is less pristine: roadsides, vacant edges, disturbed ground and places where nature persists alongside the infrastructure and development that reshape it. These overlooked moments hold a richness that becomes apparent when viewed up close.”
“Moving through the landscape by road, we encounter a narrowed view framed by the rhythm of travel. The road has become both a means of experiencing the landscape and part of the landscape itself, woven into our understanding of the places we pass through.”
“Fragments of signage, markings, symbols, and geometric systems emerge within abstracted compositions that evoke environments. Grids suggest both structures imposed upon the natural world and recurring patterns found within it. Repurposed materials carry traces of other places, uses, and histories, allowing the works to hold beauty alongside evidence of human presence.”
“From a distance, the works suggest the beauty and serenity of a pastoral landscape. Closer observation reveals something more complicated, layered, imperfect, and shaped by our collective presence.”

THRESHOLD GALLERY
Threshold Gallery was established by Mithun in 2008 to connect people with art, artists and the built environment, as well as to inspire and drive our work as designers. The gallery is located within our Seattle offices at Pier 56, and is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
