1180 Fourth Street in San Francisco was honored with a Grand award at this year’s Multifamily Executive awards ceremony held in Las Vegas. Over 300 projects were nominated in 18 different categories.
Developed by Mercy Housing California, 1180 Fourth Street provides affordable housing for low-income individuals and families, and formerly homeless households. Occupying a full city block, the exterior expression of the building varies with the qualities of its four very different street environments and is characterized by a vibrant mix of street level uses. “What’s so fabulous about the design is most neighbors are unaware that it’s designated as affordable housing,” says vice president of Mercy Housing California, Jennifer Dolin, in this article. Amenities include two levels of courtyards and gardens, community room, daycare, fitness room and computer center.
