Tonyel is an architect and leader within Mithun’s growing Los Angeles studio. Over his 26 years of practice, he has contributed to a wide range of projects spanning multifamily residential, office, mixed-use, civic and museum typologies. Tonyel brings valuable expertise to the complex challenges of large urban projects including adaptive reuse of historic structures, urban infill and development planning.
He is passionate about land use, social justice issues and their intersection within the built environment. As project manager for transit-adjacent affordable housing developments, he works closely with community leaders and residents to transform underutilized sites into vibrant housing and neighborhood infrastructure. His previous experience with Designing Justice + Designing Spaces on adaptive re-use of the City of Atlanta's jail reflects his commitment to supporting communities disproportionately impacted by over-incarceration and systemic racism. In addition to his project efforts, Tonyel serves at the board level of mission-driven organizations and volunteers within the local community.
