The K-12 classroom is a natural fit for mass timber, from the learning benefits of the biophilic material to the scale and proportions that allow for optimized structure.

Join Mithun senior associate Joe Swain for “Mass Timber + Education Buildings: Creating Tailored Learning Environments with Repeatable Systems,” a case study presentation that will explore how a kit-of-parts approach can be applied to primary and secondary school construction. Joe will share Mithun’s Building Better Schools R+D project, including background research and replicable mass timber system that meets the needs of students while keeping construction costs manageable. The Bush School Middle School and the Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Youth (CDHY) Washington School for the Deaf will be covered as two case studies, followed by a discussion about strategic timber procurement within the public-bid process.
