Theres a lot of talk about middle housing today, both from HB1110 and market drivers to provide more inclusive, affordable housing choices. Implementing middle housing policy can include a range of approaches, from multi-year initiatives to targeted updates to existing zoning. How do you decide which approach is right for your community?

Join Mithun partner Heidi Oien for the moderated discussion “A Middle Housing Playbook: Lessons Learned and Looking Ahead” to explore project-based insights and an emerging playbook of strategies from three jurisdictions – Tacoma, Kirkland and Mountlake Terrace – that have implemented different approaches to middle housing. Panelists will address a variety of topics: right-sizing to budgetary and staff capacity; how to organize middle housing standards (FAR-based, Typology-based, Density-based); how middle housing can further equity and sustainability goals; integrating new middle housing with other code chapters, including urban forestry/tree requirements, public works and parking; and civic engagement and navigating the politics of middle housing.

Heidi’s co-panelists are Brian Boudet from the City of Tacoma and Adam Weinstein from the City of Kirkland.
