The Commencement Bay Resilience & Restoration Master Plan develops a coordinated, bay-wide strategy to address climate-driven flooding, rising groundwater, habitat loss and legacy contamination. Partner feedback emphasized that Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) is essential for reducing polluted runoff, improving shoreline and nearshore resilience, and strengthening ecological function across the Bay’s diverse industrial, residential and natural shorelines. Workshop themes highlight opportunities to pair GSI with nature-based shoreline treatments, sediment management and cleanup efforts, particularly in low-lying and socially vulnerable areas identified through hazard mapping.
Join Mithun senior associate Sandra Girgis for “GSI in the Commencement Bay Resilience & Restoration Master Plan,” to learn how the master plan integrates GSI into a multi-benefit, climate-ready framework that advances restoration, supports Tribal leadership and builds long-term resilience for communities and ecosystems across Commencement Bay.
Sandra will co-present this session with City of Tacoma chief sustainability officer Kristin Lynett and Parametrix director of integrated watershed management John Phillips.
