As the first new residence hall on campus since 2005, the Bud and Val Peterson Residence Hall at Georgia Tech addresses enrollment growth and sets a framework for future housing. Community building serves as the primary design driver, shaping the organization of spaces from the building scale down to individual residential clusters. Living and learning are intentionally interwoven through curated and accessible community spaces that promote connection, visibility and choice.

Ground-level amenities — including a lecture venue, market, e-sports and broadcasting rooms, fitness space and communal kitchen —create active social hubs for a range of interaction styles. These spaces form layers of engagement that support both structured and informal community building.

Join Mithun partner Lynn McBride and associate Veronica Macalinao for the panel presentation “Georgia Tech Peterson Residence Hall: Inclusive Campus Living” to explore how this project offers a replicable model for how campus communities can serve as microcosms of society, advancing equity, inclusion and social justice. The session will incorporate design team and university perspectives on how intentional spatial organization, inclusive design strategies and sustainable construction practices can be leveraged to foster belonging, engagement and access across diverse student populations.

Lynn and Veronica’s co-presenters include Lord Aeck Sargent senior associate Cristy Fletcher, Lord Aeck Sargent associate Abigail Vu and Georgia Institute of Technology director of housing and residence life Kari White.
