A new exhibition featuring the paintings of Helena Roeber is now on display at Bridge Gallery in San Francisco. Please join us for a reception on Thursday, October 1st, from 5:00 – 6:30 pm.
Helena is a Bay Area painter whose work draws on atmosphere, light and memory to explore our evolving relationships with place and belonging. “Pacific Edge: The Landscape We Carry” is informed by the landscapes of Northern California and the German Baltic coast.
The artist shares, “Northern California’s shifting light — open skies, coastal fog drifting across hills, horizons appearing and dissolving — carries a landscape slowly into memory. My paintings begin with these lived encounters, then move beyond description as layers are built, scraped away and rebuilt.”
“Atmosphere becomes material, and the boundaries between land, water and sky become less fixed. Through color, rhythm and the movement and scale of the sky, I am interested in how a landscape can come to feel like home — and how a painting might awaken in us the memory of a place we have loved, or the feeling of one we are only beginning to love. These are the landscapes we carry within us.”

Bridge Gallery is located within Mithun’s historic third-floor office in San Francisco’s East Cut neighborhood. Dedicated to showcasing local artists, Bridge enriches our workspace by offering clients, tenants and the public the opportunity to engage with new and inspiring work. Renovated in 2023, this gallery space offers a spectacular backdrop with the warmth and texture of its brick structure. Bridge Gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.
