Educational opportunities at the Washington Park Arboretum Environmental Education Center engage visitors from their arrival and continue to unfold throughout each visit. To protect the regional watershed and expand learning opportunities on site, vehicular runoff from the parking lot is processed and celebrated by new green stormwater infrastructure as it flows towards Duck Bay. An undulating pedestrian boardwalk invites visitors to experience the series of lush stormwater rooms from high to low. Image by Plomp for Mithun.

CalArts’ ability to inspire the performances of its conservatory-trained musicians is paramount. In response, the Wild Beast Pavilion frames the individual soloist in recital mode and acts as a generous forestage to accommodate the Institute's Gamelon concerts. A combination of rotating, sliding, and pivoting surfaces allow the pavilion to easily and quickly adapt both spatially and acoustically to a variety of performance configurations. The audience is welcomed with casual seating, terraced steps and a balcony for receptions. Designed by our Mithun Hodgetts + Fung studio in Los Angeles. 📷: @tom_bonner_photography

Wild Beast Pavilion at California Institute of the Arts combines attributes of a fine musical instrument with an ensemble of kinetic and structural innovations, capable of rapid transformation from an enclosed classroom and recording studio into an outdoor performance shell. Its form and materials celebrate musical genres represented by the curriculum of Herb Alpert School of Music. Designed by our Mithun Hodgetts + Fung studio in Los Angeles. 📷: Tom Bonner
