Heartline's landscape sets the project apart and ties it into the Pearl District neighborhood as a whole. The design looks back to the history of Portland’s timber industry for inspiration, and incoporates innovative stormwater strategies to create memorable experiences that enrich the public realm.

Our project team dug in to help prepare for tomorrow’s grand opening at Louisiana Children's Museum. We can’t wait to see the community exploring the museum's diverse exhibits, indoors and out! #stepoutside #designforpositivechange

We’re excited to celebrate the grand opening of the new Louisiana Children’s Museum in City Park tomorrow, August 31st! By integrating indoor and outdoor interactive experiences in a park setting, the new campus presents a unique model for children’s museums. Exhibits and community resources are distributed across two linked buildings, carefully sited to protect existing live oaks while enhancing the lagoon and open space for environmental education. The choreography of the visitor experience connects people and nature—moving through groves of live oaks, across water, and into a courtyard and sensory gardens—while engaging children in hands-on exploration of the world and important issues of our time. 📷: Webb Bland

Following Hurricane Katrina, Louisiana Children's Museum developed a new model for a children’s museum—one that combines environmental education and colocation of community resources with the conventional play elements. It has been a pleasure and honor to join the museum and community in this journey. This Saturday, August 31, the new campus opens to the public in New Orleans City Park! The Times-Picayune / New Orleans Advocate offers a preview of the Mithun-designed building and landscape.
