Senior Urban Designer

Mithun seeks an experienced, highly collaborative Urban Designer to join our team. You will move the needle on resilient urbanism and equitable growth on a range of urban projects from transit station area and corridor plans to health equity plans and neighborhood frameworks. As an integrated design firm, Mithun offers opportunities for you to engage on a range of project scales and types including framework and area plans, development master plans, and design standards.

This is a hybrid position based in our Seattle studio Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Mondays and Fridays can be remote or in-studio.

Key Responsibilities

The Urban Designer leads project teams, interfaces with clients and supports excellence on large-scale, complex projects, collaborating with the Designer Partner as well as multiple disciplines both within Mithun’s integrated design team and externally. You work on multiple projects concurrently, developing urban design concepts, directing plan development, and creating compelling graphic deliverables that address technical requirements and community/stakeholder considerations. You support strong client relationships, clear communication, and project execution.

  • Lead large-scale projects from marketing/proposals to completion with Design Partner, including developing urban design concepts, directing plan content and supporting client relationships
  • Ensure strong execution and compelling graphics and other deliverables production
  • Create success for private, public, institutional and non-profit clients
  • Prepare presentations and conduct public facilitation
  • Support internal firm initiatives based on interests and opportunities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture or Architecture and 7+ years relevant professional experience
  • Demonstrated experience working at the district scale (e.g., 10+ acres)
  • Strong understanding of urban design concepts, including public realm, development types, multi-modal transportation, zoning/policy analysis, real estate economics, and district-scale sustainability
  • Track record of pursuing and winning District, Neighborhood, and Campus projects
  • Strong writing and team / collaboration skills; Communication and software tool abilities include MS Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, GIS
  • Strong knowledge of Rhino, Lumion, AutoCAD and/or Revit.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of architectural / vertical development urban design considerations, including code and constructability requirements, as well as parking
  • Knowledge of design guidelines, development standards and codes, and/or community engagement 
  • Multilingual skills
  • Additional education, training or experience in a complimentary discipline such as Environmental Studies, Social Science, or Public Health

Mithun offers medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid parental leave, transit benefits and a 401(k) retirement plan. Flexible Spending Accounts or Health Savings Accounts are available based on eligibility requirements. Paid time off includes eight holidays and vacation accrual of up two weeks per year. The expected range of compensation for this role is $105,000 to $120,000 per year. Pay ranges differ by location.
