Senior Urban Designer

We are seeking an experienced Urban Designer to join Mithun. You will lead project teams, interface with clients and deliver excellence on large-scale, complex projects. Your work will move the needle on resilient urbanism and equitable growth on a range of urban projects from station area and corridor plans to neighborhood frameworks. This is a hybrid position based in our Seattle or San Francisco office.  We collaborate in the office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Mondays and Fridays are flexible workdays that allow employees to work in the office or from home.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Lead large-scale project teams with Design Partner from marketing/proposals to completion, including multiple disciplines from within Mithun’s integrated design team and externally. 
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently; develop urban design concepts, guide plan development, and create compelling graphic deliverables that address technical requirements and community/stakeholder considerations. 
  • Foster strong client relationships and create success for private, public, institutional and non-profit clients. 
  • Prepare presentations and conduct public facilitation. 
  • Support internal firm initiatives based on interests and opportunities. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture or Architecture and 6+ years relevant professional experience 
  • Demonstrated experience working on district scale (e.g., 10+ acres) plans and urban design frameworks. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain client relationships. 
  • Understanding of urban design concepts, including development types, zoning/policy analysis, public/private realm, real estate economics, multi-modal transportation, and district-scale sustainability. 
  • Knowledge of architectural / vertical development urban design considerations, including code and constructability requirements, as well as parking. 
  • Track record of pursuing and winning District, Neighborhood, and Campus projects. 
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite and either GIS, Rhino or AutoCAD. 

Nice-to-haves (but not required) 

  • Knowledge of design guidelines, development standards and codes, and/or community engagement. 
  • Additional education, training, or experience in a complimentary discipline such as Environmental Studies, Social Science, or Public Health. 
  • Multilingual skills. 
  • Experience with Lumion, and Revit.

Flexible Spending Accounts or Health Savings Accounts are available based on eligibility requirements. Paid time off includes eight holidays and vacation accrual of up two weeks per year. The expected range of compensation for this role is $105,000 to $120,000 per year. Pay ranges differ by location.
