The University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego) held a groundbreaking ceremony for Nuevo West Graduate Student Housing on November 17. When it opens in 2019, the mixed-use residential community will house 804 graduate student residents as well as university medical center patients and their families. The diverse resident population is supported by a mix of shared amenities as well as buffered spaces tailored for individuals’ academic, social and health needs.
UC San Diego recently opened Mesa Nueva housing and will break ground on Nuevo East next year. The three contiguous villages contribute to an overarching goal to create “One Mesa” and enhance the university’s visibility on East Campus.
All three projects are being delivered by the Hensel Phelps | Mithun design-build team, and will add more than 3,500 beds on campus for graduate and professional students. UC San Diego aims to add more than 10,000 beds to enable the university to provide a four-year housing guarantee for undergraduates and Ph.D. students at 20% below market cost.
