Visit recently completed affordable housing projects that serve low-income families, formerly unhoused people, veterans and transitional-age youth in the Mission District and Mission Bay neighborhoods. Designers, developers, and activists will share stories—from community vision to implementation—of how they responded to San Francisco’s housing affordability crisis.

Join Tim Mollette-Parks, Mary Telling and Joyce Chang for “Building Equitable Community: An Exploration of San Francisco Affordable Housing Developments,” a tour of diverse projects including the Mithun-designed Casa Adelante at 2060 Folsom and Casa Adelate at 681 Florida. Along the way, discussion will address how neighborhoods and resident groups have shaped the design of affordable housing open spaces, and lessons learned from technical topics (stormwater strategy, rainwater reuse and structural considerations) to integrated design thinking and operational perspectives.

Additional presenters include GLS Landscape|Architecture associate Anson Ting Fung Wong, Swords to Plowshares assistant director of property management Monique Crossley, Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) deputy director of community real estate Elaine Yee, Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects principal Gregg Novicoff, GLS Landscape|Architecture director Dean W. Williams, Paulett Taggart Architects principal Roselie Enriquez Ledda, and GLS Landscape|Architecture principal Gary L. Strang.
