The AIA Seattle Architecture for Health Committee (AHC) Fall Conference, “Designing for All: Accessibility in Health and Wellness,” will explore how design solutions and the design process can improve accessibility and inclusion for as many users as possible within the healthcare setting. In addition to project tours and a keynote presentation by Karen Braitmayer FAIA, this event will feature design presentations about new facilities for the Washington School for the Deaf and Washington State School for the Blind.

Join Mithun partner JoAnn Hindmarsh Wilcox for “Design Presentation: Washington School for the Deaf” to learn how the design process can be used to support a safe, inclusive, and culturally rich environment for students who are deaf and hard of hearing. Currently in construction, the Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Youth campus expansion features multi-purpose spaces designed to maximize ASL-English bilingual instructional practices, enabling 180-degree circular seating for learning in conversation, and visual communication through improved technology infrastructure and the incorporation of DeafSpace design principles to enhance the educational experience for deaf and hard of hearing students.
