Public art has the potential to beautify blank spaces, foster community engagement, and honor authentic place-based values. This October’s Design Dialogue explores case studies that highlight the transformative impact of public art in our built environment and successful collaborations between artists and architects. How can architects better integrate the use of art into a project? How can public art add value to a building or space? What are effective ways to engage the community in the development of both?

Join Mithun partner Anne Torney for “Making Space: Public Art, Architecture and Community,” to explore strategies for engaging creative voices outside of the building design team and enhancing the experience of a building or space through public art. Anne will share recent affordable housing projects that incorporate significant public art, including Liberty Bank Building and Kapuso at the Upper Yard.

Anne’s co-presenters are KieranTimberlake principal Marilia Rodrigues and CannonDesign principal Michael Tunkey. PHDC Percent for Art program coordinator Katherine Liss will moderate the discussion.
