Over the past decade, we have witnessed an alarming rise in extreme heat, wildfires, wildfire smoke, drought and floods — often labeled as “unprecedented.” As extreme heat events continue to increase in frequency, intensity and severity, the threat escalates for significant risk to human health, especially in disadvantaged communities.
Join Mithun associate principal and sustainability integration lead Mike Fowler for “Going Beyond the Average: Design in the Age of Extremes” to learn why an optimized Passive House enclosure is one of the most powerful tools we have for occupant wellness and climate resilience. Using The Bush School Upper School as a case study, the presentation will explore passive survivability metrics. Attendees will leave with an understanding of how advanced building enclosure design can improve safety during extreme heat events, power failures and wildfire smoke exposure, or even facing all three challenges simultaneously.
