Revealing History, Promoting Culture. ARTS at King Street Station is a welcoming, vibrant arts and cultural hub that highlights communities of color and honors indigenous origins. The space’s raw, unfinished character reveals the building’s evolution from an historic train station to a contemporary transit and cultural hub. In addition to gallery spaces, ARTS provides flexible, co-use areas for community gathering and workspace for the City of Seattle Office of Arts and Culture. A public “Living Room” connects the gallery with a studio for artists-in-residence. Designed as Schacht Aslani Architects with Olson Kundig, gallery consultant. 📷: Benjamin Benschneider

UC San Diego Nuevo West received an early substantial completion! This mixed-use residential community opens in March to graduate students and families of patients at the university medical center. The staggered façade pattern, inspired by prevailing winds, supports natural ventilation, views and daylight. Building forms bend and shift to create intersecting spaces that connect student communities. Design-build delivery by Mithun and Hensel Phelps. LEED Gold target. Image: @mir.no

This new interdisciplinary learning center transforms the Olympic College campus—redefining the main entry, completing the pedestrian spine and joining with adjacent academic buildings to form a central quadrangle. The design strengthens visibility of the college’s arts and health programs, fosters synergies between the disciplines and encourages student engagement. At the building’s heart, a three-story atrium reinforces community with layered gathering spaces that connect to specialized studio, simulation, practice and performance venues. Designed as Schacht Aslani Architects. LEED Gold certified. http://mithun.com/project/olympic-college-college-instruction-center/ (clickable link in bio) 📷: @k7scott
