Following Hurricane Katrina, Louisiana Children's Museum developed a new model for a children’s museum—one that combines environmental education and colocation of community resources with the conventional play elements. It has been a pleasure and honor to join the museum and community in this journey. This Saturday, August 31, the new campus opens to the public in New Orleans City Park! We are excited to support the Design with Nature Now conference starting TODAY at The Ian McHarg Center for Urbanism + Ecology! A core conference theme, Fresh Waters reminds us of our pollinator garden at 2060 Folsom in San Francisco’s Mission District, where field research for planting types, soil and water regimes led to our community engagement and development of a garden to attract native pollinators. The landscape design ties into the historic hydrology of Mission Creek and Laguna-Dolores Lake. We unveiled the “SkyPark” design concept at the Uber Elevate Summit in Washington D.C. today. This Los Angeles design focuses on the greater community, incorporating transit connectivity, sustainable performance and neighborhood placemaking with an expansive public amenity at ground level.
