Mithun partner Daniel Solomon has written an engaging new book “Housing and the City, LOVE versus HOPE,” placing his own fifty-year career in a century of broad conflict between two antagonistic conceptions of the modern—one which sought to eradicate the pre-modern city and another that treated it with reverence. Join us for a lively discussion with Dan, architect Gordon Walker and UW Professor Anne Vernex Moudon at Peter Miller Books on Nov 29 at 5:30pm. http://mithun.com/?p=25070 (clickable link in bio) 📷: Juan Hernandez

A sun-filled public courtyard between the brick office building and residential high-rise at @HeartlinePDX invites tenants and the broader neighborhood to come together. Benches made from locally salvaged timber offer multiple places to rest. Portland artist Horatio Hung-Yan Law added the poem “Make Our Garden Grow” by Richard Wilbur, both carved into the wood and etched in Morse code on glass panels. 📷: @k7scott
